Women Owned Businesses Increased Forty-Two Percent

Running a small business can sometimes feel like fighting a battle and you are not sure you are winning. Every day thousands of small business owners pour their heart and soul into making their business a success. It is exciting to see that women entrepreneurs have excelled.

o Women-owned firms employ nearly 13 million people and generate $ 1.9 trillion in sales.

o Between 1997 and 2006, majority women-owned firms (51 percent or more women-owned) grew at twice the rate of all firms (42 percent vs. 24 percent).

o The vast majority (83 percent) of women business owners are personally involved in selecting and purchasing technology for their businesses.

o Women owners of firms with revenues of $ 1 million or higher embrace financial measurements as management tools and produce more financial reports more often than smaller firms.

o There are 2.4 million firms owned 50 percent or more by women of color in the US, employing 1.6 million people and generating nearly $ 230 billion in sales.

o More than two-thirds (67 percent) of women business owners choose financial products and services based on their relationship and experience with a lender.

The question is: "Why are women achieving these extraordinary results in spite of countless obstacles?

The answer is: Women know how to energize each other, synergize resources and maximize relations and last, but not least, ask for direction. In addition, women are not afraid to expose their weaknesses and share their failures, so, they receive the support and suggestions that makes a difference.

Women are willing to attend workshops, and form business organizations – such as – National Organization of Women Business Owners with chapters in all major cities, National Women's Business Council, Forum For Women Entrepreneurs, National Foundation for Women Business Owners, Organization of Women In International Trade, SBA-affiliated Women's Business Centers, etc.

Women entrepreneurs attend workshops providing practical tools and valuable solutions on topics such as: selling skills, marketing, media relations, customer service, organizing your life, improving your website and more.
